This is a question which really bugs me.

    Re: Understanding the Qur'an

    Hello justahumane,

It is not for anyone to interpret the Qur'an according to their whims. God did not just send people a revelation, He sent them as well a Prophet to explain that revelation and implement it so that its directives may be elucidated:

16:44 And We have also sent down unto you the reminder, that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.

In addition, Muslims are to follow the understanding of the direct recipients of the message of Islam: the companions of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh.
Their understanding of the message was the correct understanding as it was endorsed by both God and His Messenger. Addressing the companions of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh, God says:

2:137 So if they believe in the same as you (pl.) believe in, then they have been [rightly] guided; but if they turn away, they are only in dissension, and Allah will be sufficient for you against them. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

And when asked about the identity of the saved group, the Prophet Muhammad pbuh replied, "[They are those who follow] That which I and my companions are upon" (Sunan Abî Dawûd, Sunan At-Tirmidhî, Sunan Ibn Mâjah)

Al-Quran revealed 1396 years ago, so how long time to take for learning the arabic language for understanding this Holy Book?

So you start to learn first accurately then we can learn from you.

Well brother, I should agree with U on this issue. Do we have a Tafseer of holy quran from the holy prophet or companions? It will certainly be helpful in understanding holy quran without any confusion.

There are some other questions before me too, like why there had to be four different schools of Islamic thoughts if correct interpretation from the holy prophet and companions was available?

    Thanks

    Re: Understanding the Qur'an

Brother issue is not really why holy quran was revealed in Arabic, but issue is its misinterpretation and that too so easily done by different ppls in different circumstances.

    Re: Understanding the Qur'an

That's probably because the people who translated it may not have known that there would be controversy over this issue. Realise - they had to work hard to translate all of the Qur'an, which is a hard task.

Plus people make mistakes, so there's no reason why they couldn't fall into error too.

    Allaah Almighty knows best.

    Peace.

    Peace.
Brother problem has not been of translation always, it has been misinterpretation. When we have correct interpretation of holy quran by the holy prophet and companions, where is room for any sort of confusion or misinterpretation?

    Re: Understanding the Qur'an

I think the problem is due to the fact that the word awliya isn't in the english dictionary. Allaah Almighty know's best.

    Peace.

    LOL brother, not actually.

The problem is that word awliya is misinterpretated as friends by many translators of holy quran. while acording to brother Ansar it means protectors.

Same goes with a number of words which completely change the true meaning of verses of holy quran.

The mistranslation stems from insufficient knowledge on the part of those translators (whether Islamic knowledge, arabic knowledge or english knowledge).
