The unrelenting violence in the Central African Republic could force its entire Muslim population to flee the country, Human Rights Watch (HRW) says.
Peter Bouckaert, the emergencies coordinator at Human Rights Watch, made his remarks on Sunday, adding that this could have negative effects on the economy, as Muslims control the livestock market and other businesses in the country.
His remarks come one day after he called for a full-fledged United Nations peacekeeping mission to immediately stop the pogrom of Muslims in the Central African Republic, saying the killings have imperiled their future in the country.
"Entire neighborhoods are being emptied of Muslims. Their presence is being erased from this city," Bouckaert said.
Muslims make up about 15 percent of the African Republic's 4.6 million citizens.
The unabated violence between the Christians and Muslims has plagued the country since a coup in March last year, when Seleka fighters overthrew former president, Francois Bozize.
Thousands of Muslims have fled Bangui during the past several months to escape killing, looting and harassment by anti-balaka Christian militia.
According to the United Nations refugee agency, around 9,000 people have fled the country to eastern Cameroon in the past 10 days alone.
The United Nations has estimated that about two million people are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
May Allah make it easy for the muslims in CAR and the rest of our ummah, may HE accept the killed as martyrs and may HE remove the oppressors. Ameen
