Question Sujood Shukr after gaining victory?

guys I have been witnessing a few Muslim athletes would prostrate after scoring a goal or achieve something in sports. Is that allowed and is it Sunnah? Also, should we be facing the Qiblah when we're doing it?

Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: When happiness about something reached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) or good news, He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would prostrate to Allah to show thankfulness.”Collected by Abu Dawud, 2776; sh. Al-Albani classed it Saheeh.

Muslim athletes who prostrate spontaneously in the sports stadium or field are doing it naturally in a sudden surge of happiness to thank Allah.Scholars have a difference of opinion when it comes to conditions of Sujood Al Shukr(Prostration of Gratitude)

    For example,Shaykh al-Albaani's view:

“It comprises of one prostration, and none of the preconditions needed for prayer are stipulated for it. So it is like sujood at-tilaawah, they both have the same ruling. Neither of them have a precondition such as being in a state of purification, facing the qiblah, making the takbeer, making the tasleem, and so on. Rather, if he is surprised by some blessing, he prostrates immediately the way he is and praises Allaah with whatever (words) he can for that blessing that He gave him, out of thanks to Him. Likewise if he recites a verse of prostration from the Book of Allaah (‘azza wa jal), he prostrates immediately, whether he haswudhoo or not, whether he is facing the qiblah or not, without making takbeer al-ihraam and without making any tashahhud or salaam.”

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
“Sujood al-shukr is done in response to a calamity that is averted or a blessing which come to a person. It is like sujood al-tilaawah outside prayer. Some of the scholars said that wudoo’ and takbeer is required, and some said that only the first takbeer is required. Then he should fall down in prostration, and make du’aa’ after saying “Subhaana Rabbiy al-A’laa (Glory be to my Lord Most High).”

    Hope this helps

This state of shukr (Not extreme happiness) after victory creates a psychological balance for the human. So its beneficial for us spiritually and physically.
