Some good news, a mass shooting averted.
Oslo mosque attack suspect appears in court smiling and covered in bruises
Philip Manshaus, who is also suspected of killing his teenage stepsister, did not speak during the hearing.
A man accused of an attempted terrorist attack on a mosque in the Norwegian capital Oslo has appeared in court smiling and covered in bruises.
Philip Manshaus, who is also suspected of killing his teenage stepsister, did not speak during the hearing, with his defence lawyer Unni Fries saying he "will use his right not to explain himself for now".
Manshaus, 21, had dark bruises around his eyes, and scratches on his face and neck.
He was arrested on Saturday after entering a mosque in the suburb of Baerum, where three men were preparing for Sunday's Eid al-Adha celebrations, police said.
According to authorities, Manshaus was waving weapons about and several shots were fired - but they did not confirm what type of weapon was used.
On Sunday, police confirmed they were treating the attack as a terrorist incident.
Manshaus has declared himself not guilty to claims he carried out the assault, according to his lawyer.
