    What should I do first?

    Report bad ads?

    my brothers and sisters.

I've heard some very good news from my sister that my mum wants to learn how to pray. She has been reluctant in the past.

It's not easy telling someone to learn about Islam at such a late age. She is in her late 40's. I think that is old.

Anyway Al-Hum-Du-Lillah ALLAH(SWT) has given her hidayat to come onto the right path. It's odd that she never got taught nothing when she was a child in Pakistan. Her brothers and sisters have been to Hajj and know the basics. I think my uncle is the same as my mum. Both were the youngest and I reckon they weren't sent to the Masjid.

Anyway the onus is on me even though my mum has not asked me. I try my best to pray 5 times a day. My sister told me and I was thinking "you idiot, mum asked to learn and you never did nothing"

So where do I start. She can't start praying cos she has to learn Qaida first. I know how to read Quran but without Tajweed. I was taught like this at my local. Later on in life i found out what Tajweed is. I've got intentions to learn Tajweed so my pronounciation is correct.

As I am teaching her, do I teach her like I've been learnt because that is the best I can do. She maybe reluctant to learn from someone else. My mum is very stubborn.

Any help of what I should teach her, stage by stage. Anything I can use from the Internet that would make it easier.

I haven't asked her yet so do dua please. I've been really busy working and trying to start some uni work.

    JazakALLAH-heir.

Allah Akbar.. thank you for sharing this most excellent news with us..
You are never too old to learn..

my four year old niece has taken interest in prayer, she only mimics movements, but already knows al'fatiha and one short sura.. I feel that is she is already 75% there.. and insha'Allah starting with those two basics shall make the rest of the process easy on your family as well..

Subhan Allah, She is not too old.

Even you can start with Roman Arabic/urdu to make her learn Sala and later it will lead to more improvements.

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, Subhanallah that is good news. Allah gives guidance to whom he wants and we have until our soul reaches our throat to turn to him so one is never too old or too young to go towards Allah.

My brother she does not have to learn Qaudah and Qur'an in order to read Salah. She must start reading it right away so the best thing to do is to help her learn what we say and the actions we do in Salah stage by stage so that eventually she can learn how to pray it properly. You can recite to her bit by bit what we say in Salah and she can write it down in her own words and memorize it. You can also show her stage by stage the actions of Salah. She should learn in no time inshallah

I have attached three files for you to download. One being "The difference of Salat between men and women" the second is "The Translation and transliteration of Salah". and the third is "How to perform Salah Correctly" all of which will be very beneficial in teaching your mother inshallah.

Here are some very useful and beneficial links covering important areas of cleanliness and purity as well as the performing of prayer and a couple of very beneficial E books covering the most important areas:

Brother Hamza - Are you saying that she can read without knowing everything. I know she will slowly but she can pray straightaway right.

She don't know how to write too.

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, yes my brother she can start praying straight away. Just teach her in manageable bitesize chunks. Like stage by stage. Keep repeating it to her until she has memorised it and be patient with her.

Salaah is fard so she must start praying as soon as possible. When you are teaching her then also demonstrate to her the postures and the positions in Salah. Inshallah your mother will be praying Salah in no time. Tell her to continue to dua and dhikr as much as she can and the rest will follow inshallah.

If you need any more help then we are here for you but do keep us in your prayers.

Its great to know that she has shown some interest, Alhumdullilah. And you know that Salat is Fard so as someone else recommended that you can start with Roman Urdu and just teach her how to pronounce the wordings and tell her the translation so she knows whats she is reading in her prayers and maybe it would be a good idea to start with short Surahs so she can quickly start her prayers InshAllah
