InshaAllaah, I'm gonna post up some notes based on the series, "السفرة الكرام - The Noble Emissaries" by Yaasir Qadhi. It goes without saying, the only way to truly learn tajweed is under the tutelage of an authorised Qaari. The notes are on the theory aspect. Anyone who wants to make additions/corrections, please do so.
Bismillaah;
السفرة الكرام - The Noble Emissaries Lessons on Tajweed: the Art of Reciting the Qur’aan
The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The one who recites the Qur’an fluently, will be in the company of the obedient and noble angels.” [Bukhari]
Definition of ‘Tajweed’
Linguistically, Tajweed comes from the root word ‘jawwada’, which means to improve, better, ameliorate, upgrade, make better.
Its legal meaning is to recite the Qur’aan, as it was revealed to the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), by giving every letter it’s rights, pronouncing it correctly along with the established rules and intonation.
Therefore, the science of Tajweed can be divided into two main categories:

brother Saifur-Rahmaan, you mentioned in your post that before reciting the Qur'an we must say 'ta'awwudh' whats that?
Dear Allah. I pray that whoever reads this message shall have your comfort, joy, peace, love, & guidance. I may not know their troubles, but you do. Please keep protecting us. Ameen.
^ Ta'awwudh is to seek refuge with Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta'aala) from the Shaytaan. Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta'aala) mentions,
فإذا قرأت القرآن فاستعذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
"So when you want to recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one)." [16:98]

Just a sidenote, I think the ustaadh is using al-Jazariyyah for his lessons...not 100% sure though.
