For years Casto has defied the USA, and here is Dubya the cretin meddling in Cuban affairs once AGAIN!
US President George Bush has said that Fidel Castro's decision to step down as Cuban president should begin a "democratic transition", eventually culminating with free and fair elections.
He also said the US stood ready to help Cubans realise the "blessings of liberty."

Cuba is an odd mix. The social set-up, particularly regarding medical care and education is superb for a nation outside the 'developed world', and it's people would never want to sacrifice that to embrace a capitalist economy. The fact is, though, that the general economy is in dire straights.
'Interfering' or not, I hope Bush is right and this will provide a window for democracy so that people of Cuba can decide what THEY want for the future. 'Democracy' does necessarily mean a US or European style economic model.. and if Cuba's people wish Cuba to remain a socialist state there is no reason they should not do so. They have no vested interest in 'defying' the US; it's only those outside Cuba who ever applauded Castro for that. There's also considerable feeling within the US that the two should kiss and make up, at least to some extent, and that would be in everybody's best interests.
^^^ Not a USA style/led democracy. They shall have to keep their paws off, he may have quit, but he's still going to be the main person to guide behind the scenes.
Imagine without the USA sanctions, this country would have been even more prosperous! - He's done well with what he had.

I guess all those Cubans floating in homemade boats trying to get to Florida just can't see how great Castro and his Socialist system are.
It is usually people who live very far away, in comfort and democracy, who prop up dictators as revolutionary heroes for their "defiance" of the U.S. The same thing has occurred with Hugo Chavez. It isn't surprising in the least.

Yes it's not like Americans never emigrate to other parts of the world for a better life? or the British....
He was much better than the American backed dictator he got rid off. Hence the sanctions, hostilties against Cuba!

The sanctions against Cuba began as a stand against Communism and Soviet expansion.
* Also, how many Americans or Brits do you see building boats out of tires to float across the ocean to get away?
there's good and bad of every place... I'm sure you kno there's places in America which are as poor/dangerous (if not more) then some of the worst places in countries like cuba and other third world countries... i wud think that if these people in developed countries had a chance to 'relocate' to a better life, they probably would too..

If people have the money to relocate from a bad neighborhood, they don't move to Jamaica, they move to a different state or a different area in their home state.

You're making out that only in Cuba people are desparate to leave. Ask the amount of americans that want to leave because of that idiot Dubya! - Don't forget half of the country was agasnt him in the last election!
A couple people try to get to the USA via the sea, and they make out they all are trying to escape!

A couple of people? Maybe you should look up how many Cubans have ended up in Florida in the past 20 years.

It's silly really, the yanks seem to think, If it's not their way, it's not right! That gets on my t**s!
Yes, and I pointed out that many people move to Jamaica...not because they hate their homeland, but because they like the beach. Let's not get absurd here.
