2-the interpretation of the verse :
And we assume that we will never be able to elude God in the earth, nor will we be able to elude Him by fleeing — we will not be able to escape Him, whether we are on earth or, fleeing from it, in the heavens.

Both meanings are correct because if you look at the context in which its being said then the jinn is speaking saying- we can not escape from Allah (swt)... even if we try to escape by flying... unlike humans jinns have no need for machinary because they can fly at stupendous speeds faster than any man made machine... but obviously they are not quicker than the angels and death will find them where ever they flee...

Salam brother
Can you enlighten me where did you get the information that Jinns 'can fly' in the sura of Jinn?
In surah Jinn Allah (swt) says "And we (the jinns) have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames." They can't reach the heavens can by walking- so obviously jinns must fly there. Walking in air is flying.
Also in surah in Surah Mulk Allah (swt) says "And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze"
So some shooting stars are those that are thrown at jinns as they used to ascent the sky to listen to the discussion between the angels about what will before upon the earth.
Also Narration - Reported by al-Tahhaawi in Mushkil al-Athaar, 4/95, and by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 22/214
Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani said: “The Messenger of Allaah said: ‘The jinn are of three types: a types that has wings, and they fly through the air; a type that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes its journey.” [Shaykh al-Albaani said in al-Mishkaat (2/1206, no. 4148): al-Tahhaawi and Abu’l-Shaykh reported it with a saheeh isnaad]

But not every shooting star means its chasing a jinn... in fact i dont think it happens as often since the revealation of the Quran.... in fact if you read the tafsir of surah jinn it mentions the whole story about how the jinns were unable to listen to the angels in the sky so went out in groups to find out what has changed that has prevented them from doing so, then they came across the prophet (pbuh) reciting Quran and knew they found their answer.
