In general, there are differences of opinion among the contemporary Ulama whether DIGITAL PICTURES fall in the category of*tasweer*(making pictures of animate objects) or not.

THE Majority of the Ulama say it's IMPERMISSIBLE whilst others say it is permitted.

Among those who say it's NOT PERMITTED ARE:

- Mufti M Saeed Motara DB; Head Mufti of Azaadville.
- Ml Fazlur-rahman Azmi DB; Shaykhul-Hadith of Azaadville.
- Ml A Hamid; Principal of Azaadville.
- Mufti Ahmed Khanpuri DB; Shaykhul-Hadith - Dhabel.
- Mufti Ebrahim Desai DB; Head Mufti of Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah - Durban.
- Ml Saleem Dhorat; Shaykhul-Hadith - IDA Leicester.
- Mufti Saeed Palanpuri: Shaykhul-Hadith Darul-Uloom Deoband.

Whilst we do tolerate and respect different views,*it will be against precaution to take selfies, let alone animate digital photos keeping in mind it being IMPERMISSIBLE according to the Majority of Scholars.

Consider the following warnings of Our Beloved Nabi ﷺ:

Nabi ﷺ said:

ﻻ ﺗﺪﺧﻞ ﺍﻟﻤﻼﺋﻜﺔ ﺑﻴﺘﺎ ﻓﻴﻪ ﺻﻮﺭﺓ

TRANSLATION:

"The angels do not enter the house in which there is a [animate] picture.

[Saheeh al-Bukhari, 30:54]

Another Hadith:

"Nabi ﷺ said:

ﺇﻥ ﺃﺷﺪ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﻋﺬﺍﺑﺎ ﻋﻨﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺍﻟﻘﻴﺎﻣﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺼﻮّﺭﻭﻥ

Those who used to draw/take images/pictures shall receive the severest punishment on the day of Resurrection."

[Saheeh al-Bukhari, 5606]

Nabi ﷺ said:

"Those who make/take these images shall be punished on the say of Resurrection. They will be ordered : 'Give life to what you created.'"

[Bukhari: 5951]
