    Ex-BNP man 'stockpiled explosives'

    Report bad ads?

A FORMER British National Party election candidate and a dentist stockpiled explosive chemicals in advance of a civil war in Britain, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Ex-BNP candidate Robert Cottage, 49, wrote of assassinating Tony Blair and bought dangerous chemicals together with friend David Jackson, 62, it was claimed.

He also downloaded the Anarchy Cookbook - a manual on how to make bombs, the court heard. Cottage, who worked as a bus driver transporting disabled children to school, feared the country was almost on the brink of civil war.

He began buying hundreds of pounds' worth of chemicals from the internet and tinned foods which he stored in his house on Talbot Street, Colne.

Cottage allegedly told friends he would like to shoot Mr Blair and local Liberal Democrat peer Lord Greaves.

When police raided his home last year they discovered crossbows and four air pistols together with ammunition stashed in suitcases.

They also found boxes of ball bearings which the prosecution claim could be used as shrapnel.

Following interviews with Cottage, detectives raided Jackson's home on Trent Road, Nelson, and found a bow, arrows and two nuclear protection suits.

Louise Blackwell QC, prosecuting, told how Cottage's wife, Kerena, suffered mental health problems and had visited a social worker last year. During the meeting, she explained she was growing increasingly concerned over her husband who had crossbows and large quantities of chemicals stored at their home.

This sparked a police operation and officers raided the house that evening.

The two men deny conspiracy to cause an explosion.

Cottage has pleaded guilty to possession of explosives but Jackson, who works as a dentist in Lancaster and Cumbria, denies an identical charge.

    Re: Ex-BNP man 'stockpiled explosives'

Seems like deranged behavior. Crossbows and air pistols? Anyway, the most dangerous element is the ball bearings. Glad they discovered this and arrested those guys. Great Britain doesn't need a Timothy McVeigh piled upon everything else.

Well he's an ex member, not like he was acting under orders, maybe he was maybe he wasnt.

But I dont see why the article mentions the tinned food. Was that lethal too?

He began buying hundreds of pounds' worth of chemicals from the internet and tinned foods which he stored in his house on Talbot Street, Colne.

After the grave and the Day, in paradise in bliss upon a reclined seat.

I think they're trying to imply he was preparing for some sort of nuclear fallout. At least, that's the only thing I could infer from that.

Alternatively, the writer of the article might bear a grudge against Del Monte.

No, that happens when they say they are planning stuff because they want to please Allah. This man does not do it to please his God, thus his religious background is not relevant.

    Re: Ex-BNP man 'stockpiled explosives'

He doesnt want to please God with his actions, but his idol whoever that may be. He was hoping to start a civil war. How did he figure that, and how did the ones figuring him out figure he was capable of causing a civil war. Is it just me or is the media playing tricks with our minds.
When Jack Straw raised the veil row, it clearly got out of hand, to balance it out we heard about the christian woman working for British Airways who refuses to remove her cross.
Now we get the recent arrests in Birmingham, and now this BNP member arrest to balance it all out. I think have said too much already.

So are you stating that fundamentalists or extremists do it to please Allah swt? Don't you know it was the followers of Christianity that started fundamentalism in the western world?

Since you have disrespected my Religion with that statement. What about the case of Timothy Mcveigh? And why does religion have to mentioned, so what if the man does it to please Allah swt, how come i don't find that in the newspapers but i find radical, fundamentalist and terrorist?

This just shows that you can't take your eye of any potential threat. I'm slightly worried that the FBI will be putting so much effort in tracking Muslim terrorists that they will forget about the militia groups, like the group Timothy McVeigh buddied around with.

Well, yes. Of course, many Muslims who commit terrorist acts no doubt believe that it was not only allowed by Allah, but that they would be rewarded for it by a place in paradise. Not all terrorist acts committed by Muslims were particularly religiously motivated, most of the actions of the PLO were not for example.

Don't you know it was the followers of Christianity that started fundamentalism in the western world?
Yes, I do know that. But how is that relevant here? The ex-BNP man was not a Christian fundamentalist.

Since you have disrespected my Religion with that statement.
. It was not my intention to disrespect your religion with that statement. I apologize if I did. But it is a fact that some Muslims believe their religion allows certain acts such as those committed against public transport in Madrid or in London. I do not personally believe Islam condones any such thing, but then, I am not a scholar.

Besides, all this has very little to do with my comment. If some Muslims commit terrorist acts in the name of Islam (which they clearly are doing), then that should be noted in any news article discussing it. If an ex-BNP man stockpiles explosives without any religious motivation or mentioning of religion whatsoever, then his religion is not relevant.

What about the case of Timothy Mcveigh?
What about him? He was an anti-government extremist and terrorist. His religion was not his stated motivation and he never mentioned it. In fact, the only religious statement he did make, was say that he was an agnostic.

And why does religion have to mentioned, so what if the man does it to please Allah swt, how come i don't find that in the newspapers but i find radical, fundamentalist and terrorist?
Well, if someone were to use religion as a motivation for a terrorist attack, than that someone would be a religious radical/extremist and a terrorist. Just like McVeigh was an anti-government extremist and terrorist. The unabomber was an anti-technology extremist and terrorist. I don't like to word 'fundamentalist' too much, since fundamentalist and orthodox should really be synonymous if you ask me. Nowadays fundamentalist has unfortunately become a synonym of extremist.
