Monday, October 22, 2007 was a failure for the government, yet a victory for the American justice system. The jury deliberated for 19 days to determine whether or not the Holy Land Foundation and five of its officials were terrorist enabelers. The jury, however, could not return a single guilty verdict, so the judge declared a mistrial. Juror William Neal was quoted by several journalists as saying, "There was no evidence. There were so many gaps." The Holy Land Foundation was the largest American Muslim charity until the U.S. government shut it down in 2001
