Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarkatuh
Spiritually, fasting stops a person from the things which might attach his heart to this world, which are basically food and desires.
So there are actually 3 levels of fasting:
•1st level - fasting of eating/drinking
•2nd level - fasting of false and harsh speech
•3rd level - fasting of evil thoughts ( this one is hard but we should try our best to do this one too)
May this ramadhan bring us closer to Allah.
May Allah forgive us all.
