As of 9/11 2002, there began a grassroots movement in the US to make 9/11 into a day for public service, volunteerism, and good deeds. The concept is simple. It's 9/11 (or 11/9 in the UK), we know what happened in order to make that day significant, now let's do some good things. In 2009, this was made more official by an act of Congress that makes it a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and the Corporation for National and Community Service is charged with making opportunities available to act on, and with publicizing the nature of the event- which amounts to the largest day of charitable service in an average year. https://www.serve.gov/site-page/september-11th-national-day-service-and-remembrance
Additionally, it's been a few years now, and there were over 13,000 babies born in the US on September 11, 2001. They all turn 16 tomorrow (as of the time of this post), and some of them have been brought on to a PR campaign in which they ask people to do good things, be kind to each other, and don't be a hateful bigot because of the day that happens to be their specific day of birth. And this is how the US, in the medium to long term, is choosing to interact with and remember the date. This is our official-capacity response, at any rate, and this is what our youngest generation is being brought up with. There is much variation in terms of the individual decisions that people decide to make and the views they express, but this is the overall directionality of mass media, of the government, and of educators in general. It took a little while to take form as an official, concerted effort, but it's become something that we can all be proud of.
....
Provided that we are all sane and rational and not at all likely to spin conspiracy theories while claiming it was an inside job, and of course let's find a way to blame the Jews for no apparent reason. But we can't be completely free of that, can we?
At any rate. For most of us, this is a pretty nice thing that seems to have moved in the right sort of direction. It's been well publicized here in the US, it's on TV and radio and it's being linked to the hurricane damage to Houston and Florida. It may not be all that well publicized globally though, so if you weren't aware of what's being done here, those are some of the details.
