A good friend.

everyone,

I have a very very close friend, one of my best friends, who isn't very practising, so she doesn't wear a scarf, sometime doesnt' pray 5 times a day, listens to music, she doesnt have a boyfriend, but like she will allow her friends boyfriend to drop them off somewhere if there is absolutely no one else to (and thats haram too) etc. but other than that she is a brilliant friend, and is well mannered, polite, understanding, caring etc..

It really makes me sad that I see her like this, but I don't know what to do. There isn't much I can do I think. Some of her other friends aren't practising either.. She hasn't influenced me in any way though. She respects me so much, and my beliefs of course, and like she waits for me outside the prayer room whilst I pray and understands me..

I'm worried that I may be sinning by being her friend, which will make me very upset but I do need to know -Does anyone have any advice for me please?

my sister jazakallah for sharing this with us as it shows that you have fear for your imaan. We are who our friends are and if our friends are not practising or are committing evils, haraam and are bad influences for us then we should keep away from them but at the same time invite them towards Allah in a beautiful manner using wisdom and tact.

Allah also tells us in the Qur'an: All friends will be enemies of one another on that Day (Day of Judgment) except those of the virtuous.” (al-Qur’an 43:67)

As long as you don't hang around with a big group of non practising sisters then that would be much more detrimental but in your case i think you should stick with her for a while and be a good influence on her as in talk to her about Islam all of the time and try and get her to see the importance of prayer and wearing the hijaab.

Remind her often of death and take her to talks, halaqa's and encourage her to pray with you. Continue to invite her towards deen more but if you feel yourself getting influenced by her in a bad way then you must stop hanging around with her immediatley.

You should only hang around with her to try and get her to come towards the deen but as soon as she starts doing other evils and goes further from the deen then you have done all you could and you should keep away from her.

Jazakallahukhairan for your reply. One thing I must say is mashAllah, my friend is a quiet girl who does no harm to anyone, and she has no influence on me except of those about being quiet, peaceful, polite etc. mashAllah, she has some beautiful characteristics, and that it why it makes me sad to see her not wearing a hijab etc.

The thing is there was another group of girls that I used to hang around with, they're not practising too, but I dont' hang out with them anymore due to lots of complicated problems, just the usual hi and bye..

But this is one girl who has really helped me with problems, always been there, everyone even says we're inseperable.. I thought that by being her friend I would be sinning, I do try and get her into Islam, but it is reli hard sometimes, but I do still try.

Sis from what you describe her she seem a person with good manner so there is many ways to help her
1) make her dua so perhaps Allah will guide her
2) Try to teach her specially the knowledge of Allah cuz when someone know Allah it is impossible to not worship him
3) Try to be example to her and show her that practising is the best.
