I reverted to Islam only about a year ago. My Islamic name is Abdullah Muhammad. I use my previous name Woodrow as a user ID on nearly all of the forums I belong to. The reason for this is to preserve continuity. I want people on my other forums to know that it is Woodrow who reverted and by this manner they have continuity to find me when I send them invites to new groups I join.

I have also used the id of sytall on many other forms I was on. Unfortunatly, some others have started using that ID also and now the name has been associated with sites I desire no connection with. So at the present time I only use my sytall ID on my ebay groups.

I am an older person and it took me many years to come to the realization that I am Muslim. It was a long twisted path, that I wish I had taken years ago. but, I think the important thing is I did find the path and am now on it.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic and was very devouted. Went the whole 9 yards, alter boy, CYO, KofC, Sacred Heart Society etc. In my 20's I began have doubts. Became disillusioned in organized religion. Became a Buddhist, more as a way of life then a spiritual aspect. I was always wondering about the 3rd precept in that a person must find obedience to a higher being. Well I spent much of my life searching and then at 64 years old I said the Shahadah.

The story is a bit more complex then that, during that time, I lived in many places and in many cultures, got my Ph.D in psychology although never worked in the field of Clinical Psychology. Spent over 7 years in the Military, got severaly injured in the line of duty, married twice. Three Children and now 14 grandchildren. My children and grandchildren are Muslim and have been for many years. Been retired for a long time time, had the luxury of retiring at the age of 50. Spent much of the past 16 years in study and travel.

I guess this thread is a good place to tell a bit more about myself. I'll add to the thread as time permits.

Assalamu alaikum brother, I myself started practicing and recently and acquired knowledge from the Quran and sunnah by reading and watching lectures and understanding of scholars although I was born as one. Just a bit of a warning to newbies is that be a bit catiouse of peoples opinion and some statement they make that is not truly derived from ISLAM, and you may unwittingly convey this and any false message to other people. Bit of catiouseness and prudent is neccessary. (most of the people are like you in some ways, they are learning and shedding some false concepts)

Take care brother Musa from London.

Shukrahn for the fine links. A few I had found before, but the majority are new to me. One thing I have learned is to use sites recommended by others then to try to find any good ones on my own. There are many sites spreading falsehoods in the name of Islam, sadly they are the ones searchers and newbies will often find first.
