can any brothers or sisters who have detailed knowledge re segragation in Islam, please provide me with advice;

specifically I am trying to answer a question which was posed;

the question being

" why are male visitors seated generally in seperate rooms from women in muslim households (this in the context of those visiting, i presume the question was referring to non mehram visitors ) "
