Young Muslim and Environmental Specialist, Brother Karim Hakim was selected last month by Helping Hand USA, a Muslim Relief Organization to be part of their Youth for Haiti program. The program consisted of volunteer Muslims flying and staying in Haiti for one week while aiding and assisting Haitians in need after the devastating earthquake that recently struck the small country. Helping Hand brought volunteers to Haiti in order to help build shelters, plan a new Masjid, and provide free medical aid to those in need.

Brother Karim was the final volunteer of the program and recently returned from Port Au Prince, Haiti just a matter of days ago. Port Au Prince was the center point for the terrifying earthquake that shook Haiti and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and countless amounts of damage. While in Haiti, Karim participated in free medical clinics and volunteered at a major hospital in the emergency room, serving as medical aid and treating severely wounded patients. He also taught Quran to local Haitian Muslims during his trip.

Karim first-hand witnessed the destruction caused by the earthquake, but also was blessed enough to see the Masajid in Haiti that remained standing despite the devastating earthquake. Subhan'ALLAH!

Insha'ALLAH, Brother Karim will be sharing his incredible story with us and will answer the questions so many people are asking about the poor country, the aftermath of the quake, and the Muslim community in Haiti.
