I’m sure this has been brought up but I’ve noticed many times that certain words are spelt and even pronounced differently in the English language. For example, words like Duhr. I’ve seen it spelt as (th)dhuhr, zuhr, Duhr. I also hear people pronouncing them as spelt above based on how they were taught. That’s just one of the many examples out there.
So I guess my question is why are there different English spellings of the same word when it’s only pronounced one way? That seems to be causing some confusion in how people pronounce certain words.
