Black dots?

I've noticed that when checking threads in User CP, some of them have been marked with a black dot. What is this and why? I've not seen this before.

ive seen them too :eek:
at first i thought it was one of those cool optical illusions where it looks like there are black dots but there arent any
but then i tilted my eyes and it didnt go away so i just lived with it :)
