Buying gifts for someone on their birthday

I know it is haram to celebrate it but for their birthday i want to give a gift a pair of shoes to make the person happy is this haram.

I will also be using the shows on regular daily basis.
 
Exchanging the gifts to strengthen the bond of brotherhood is praiseworthy in Islam but...... Birthday...? Talk to a mufti bro.
 
Ignore the birthday and give them the present a week or a month before or after the birthday.

Also, explain to your friend what is Islamic perspective for birthday celebrations so he doesn´t become upset if you don´t notice his birthday.
