KUALA LUMPUR: The hidden "eyes" that watch over the city's traffic and help the police to nab criminals will be a full-fledged crime monitoring system nationwide if the approach proves effective.
"We live in the electronic and multimedia age," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
"This provides us with many avenues to take advantage of, as long as they are used for good reasons," he told reporters after launching the national Community Sports League 2006 at Padang Semarak, Angkasapuri here yesterday.
Comparing the electronic eyes to the 'mata-mata' (a metaphor for police in Malay), Abdullah said:
"Good. Good. We also want to try out this electronic eyes. Our 'mata-mata' are insufficient. Now, we have electronic eyes."
"If closed-circuit TVs prove effective and practical, what's wrong in using them throughout the country?"
