Assalamu alaikum.

I wanted to ask brothers and sisters here if you think the book "Commentary on Riyad Us Saliheen" is a good and reliable source for a beginner on learning Hadiths. This is by Darussalam publishers and the commentary is by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf. It is a two volume set. It does seem to cover quite an array of topics and contains the Arabic, the English translation, and the commentary. Any other good books to form a starting point as well?

Nobody has heard of this commentary on Riyad Us Saliheen? Darussalam publishers? Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf? Should I interpret silence as default approval that this is acceptable text to use?

Riyadh us Saliheen is a very good source, so is Imam Nawawi's (ra) 40 Ahadith. These books are very good. May I suggest that you also try reading the Sixty Sultaniyya, which have nice and easy commentaries on subjects about the Muslim Ummah in general. These are very important things to know as well:

Leadership and law is important in Islam. It concerns all Muslims. Whenever you feel like you want to know about these subjects from the Islamic point of view, then look at these.

Another good source of information, perhaps the most important one of all, is the 40 Hadith Qudsi:

If you really want to understand some of the concepts in Islam a lot more clearly, then you should read and reflect on these 40 Ahadith often and carefully. You will find these particularly helpful in comprehending some of the things in the Qur'an later on. Believe me it helped me a lot as well.
