I know that being shy is a virtue in Islam. Is there any virtue in being confident?

Asalaamualaykum : The antonym of shy is not confident. A person can be shy yet very confident as the word confidence always has to have an associated attribute.

Example Confident in public speaking, Confident in cooking etc etc. Shyness is a persona trait - Confidence is related to attributes. So I am not sure what you're really asking.

Maybe you are referring to hayaa which is recognised as a good trait in Islam. I think you need shyness as well as confidence depending on the situation. Internal and outer confidence in your deen insha Allah. Shyness when someone is praising you. Both are useful and needed insha Allah.
