How do you confront somebody , who you highly suspect of having stolen money from you? In my case it has happened with the girl who works as a cleaning maid, and I had kept some money on the shelf and forgot about it, and after two days it wasn't there. The thing is that, this girl has been found stealing money even before, has been caught red handed, but she was 18 or so so we used to forgive her and give her good lessons of things from the Quran and sunnah, and she did seem to learn quite a lot and we were a little laxed now that she isnt going to steal anymore, but it has happened again..

Whats strange is that my mother had a dream about money being stolen from our house as well, BEFORE we found out that the money was stolen, and i had a dream about the maid girl being guilty of stealing infront of me... but she is denying it, and saying that she is willing to place her hand on the Quran and swear by it...

this time, again we weren't very confrontational with her and allowed her to look for it with us, so to even give her an excuse to put it back if she wanted to, but she didnt, after showing much leniency, my mom was a bit firm and yet she still denied... Now is there a thing such as a djinn taking money and putting it away so that you can not find it anywhere, because i clearly remember that I put it on the shelf and now its gone, the only evidence we have is that, the money has a coin with it too and if she hid it all in her clothes, while she was mopping, a coin slipped from her clothes and my mom was like 'where did this come from, and she said its hers,
' the same coin with the money that i lost as well so, that put us in doubt, but at that time my mom did not know that I had placed the money at my shelf so she didn't check the maid, but when I told her , she was like oh she had dropped the coin the other day too!

what i lost was quite a number along with this coin which was placed inside the cash, she may have quickly picked and rolled it all in her shirt somewhere, but who knows.. I was just thinking, what if she didn't take the money? we don't want to be wrong or be blaming her unjustly.. how to really determine if she had stolen? And by our rules, we are to report her so that other people of the community do not hire her or are at least aware of her activities, which would suspend her entire family's licence of working in this town...what do we do?

is there a dua to find out who has stolen, and how do we know for sure that the djinn didnt play a trick on us : p I am really confused, and we were all quite worried since we dont want to be unfair and blame somebody for something that they haven't done....it is so hard to find good maids these days that we kept them since they seemed less threatening that the others, we've been helping them out a lot, they havent been too mean or too good, quite annoying at times, but thats how it goes with all of them, these at least used to pray a couple of times a day and do some chores... But I and my mom are feeling really bad....what if she didnt?? : (

Don't confront her but if you've hired her through an agency then inform her employer and then replace her with a guarantee from the agency itself who should do background checks on their employees. She'll learn the painful way possibly losing her job & being humiliated.. If you confront someone who already has criminal tendencies it might backfire big time..
you can also file a police report against her that way they can search her & retrieve your stolen goods if you can describe them (other than money that is)

my parents were robbed during pilgrimage if can you believe it.. they couldn't argue about it with the thief but he ran from the shop and some cop found him and my parents had to let it go because they didn't want to undo their hajj.. sob7an Allah.. I don't understand how a thief's mind works & don't want to find out..

Agreed. Spying is usually prohibited in Islam but allowed in some cases.

Allah says in Surah Al-Hujuraat:
O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, Indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it, and fear Allah. Verily Allah is the one who forgives and accepts repentance, most merciful.


It is permissible to take precautions to guard oneself from harm. This is different from spying on someone to look for faults simply to be malicious and spread gossip.

I think you should dismiss the idea of jinns stealing the money. That's not to say it doesn't happen. It does. But that's usually in cases of black magic where a magician has sent a shaytaan to cause mischief, and there are other signs of jinn activity present. But if you really must have proof, then leave some money somewhere on the maids day off, and see if it goes missing. If it does then you know it really is a jinn.


Lastly, if it does come to suspending the girl, like you said her family will also suffer. Yet if you don't tell people then she may steal from someone else again. In that case you have to pick the less harmful solution. Offer her the chance to resign, or face being exposed. Tell her you don't want her family to suffer, so it's better she leaves herself.

I know good maids are hard to find. But I don't call this a good maid. Rely on Allah to provide you with a reliable and trustworthy one.
