Prophet Muhammad said the strong man is not the one who can win in a physical fight but the one who can restrain himself in a moment of anger. In that regard many Muslims fail, they respond with knee jerk reactions to the controversy ruling the day. The best way for Muslims to react to something they find offensive is through peaceful protest and boycott. Let me draw on the classic example, the riots over the Muhammad comic strips. If I had ultimate control over what those people did I would have made sure they protested, not rioted, and I would have had them put a boycott against the newspaper which published the strip.
