Different Education systems

I was just wondering what the different education systems are like all over the world?

Here in SA it starts off with Grade R
After that its grade 1 to 7 (Primary School)
then grade 8 to 12 (High school)

Our Matric (grade 12) year is our final and most important year.

After Matric we can either go to uni for a degree, college for a diploma or else just quit school.

Are the education systems similar to this in other countries too?

Its almost same everywhere.

In India it starts with KG (Kinder Garten).
Then its Primary School, class 1st to 5th.
Then Secondary School, class 6th to 10th.
Then Senior Secondary, class 11th and 12th.
11th and 12th is also called as PUC (Pre-University Course).
There are Board exams in 10th and 12th.
Diploma can be done after 10th or 12th.
After 12th, University for Bachelor's and then Masters, PhD...

Canada/US:

-KG (Jr - Sr)
-Gr. 1 - 5 (Elementary)
-Gr. 6-8 (Middle or Juniour)
-Gr. 9-12 (High School or Secondary)

In Canada you just do your final exams for whatever subject requires them, and then go off to Uni or College (which is lower than Uni).

In the US, you do your SATs/ACT, plus your final exams for your classes and then go off to Uni/college (same thing).

- Nursery/Reception (Pre-School)
- Year 1-6 (Primary School)
- Year 7-11 (Secondary school)
- Year 12-13 (College/Sixth-Form)
- Uni (usually 3-5 years; depends on course)
 
In Lebanon:
PS1-PS2-PS3 (Prescolaire: That's kindergarden) (Age: 3 --> 6)
EB1--> EB5 ( Education de Base 1: Primary school) (Age 6 --> 12)
EB5--> EB9 (Education de Base 2: Middle school) (Age 12 --> 15)

S1G (1st secondary year)
S2S or S2H (2nd secondary year science/litterature)
Then there's the last year:
SV (Biology) or SG (Maths) or SE (Economy) or LH (Litterature). (you learn the same subjects in all 4 sections but one of them has the priority)

At the end of the last year, there are official exams that all students must take. You can take the SATs, the french" test d'aptitude"...then you go to university.

Malaysia:
Elementary school (Year 1-Year 6)
Secondary School (Form 1-Form 5)

After that either...

Senior Secondary School (Form 6 -18months)
or
Matriculation (9months) {Govt' choose who gets to go based on racial quota}
or
Pre-University Course (provided by private institutions)

THEN finally..
UNi!!


In Burma/Myanmar...
Primary School ( Year 1-6)
Middle School (year 7-8)
High School (Year 9-10)

University....
 
In Palestine:

By the end of grade 10 and before students start grade 11, they have to join either the scientific stream or the Literary stream.

Tawjihi , the general secondary examination, is very important. Students' grades in Tawijihi control what university field they can apply to.

Students in Palestine can also follow some foreign secondary education programs such as IGCSE and SATs depending on what school they go to.

At the end of grade 9, you do exams to determine where you continue school. If you get good marks, you continue at a regular school. If you don't do so well, you enter either an arts school, or a technical school where they teach crafts and trades.

In grade 11, you enter either the sciences stream, or humanities.

In grade 12 (which is called bakaloria) you have exams at the end of year. They're long and hard, and people usually start studying from the beginning of grade 11 for them. The marks you get in these exams determine what you'll get into at university. Things like medicine, pharmacology, engineering, etc. need high marks, while things like humanities, arts, music, etc. don't need much.

Then you either go to a college, which is 2 or 3 years, or university, which is 4/5/6, depending on what you're studying.

Age 0 - 18 Don't go school
Age 19 - pay 10,000 rupees for your very own degree.

Otherwise it's similar to India's system.

- Vocational Education depends, its usualy ( 4 years )
- High school ( 3 years)

It's very similar to the education system in Lebanon :)

I don't think it's a joke. It used to happen in Lebanon during the civil war...not anymore. But it still happens in a lot of other countries.

INDONESIA

Before 1980 school year was started on January, and after 1980 school year was started on July.

In 1980 school year was one and a half year long.

Sorry, that was not 1980, but 1978 or maybe 1979. I dont remember.:blind:
