Do I need to send durood before making a dua for forgiveness?

Assalamu alaikum,

I wish to know something, before I recite Sayyidul Istighfar, do I necessary need to send durood on prophet? Or I can recite Sayyidul Istighfar just like that without sending no durood or praises etc?
