Assalamualaikum,

Is it permissible if you ask God to grant a specific person (for eg, Person X) to be your soulmate?

Is there a doa for that?

Thanks!

-Wa'alaikumsalam

Actually, no problem if you make a du'a wish Allah gives that specific persons as you marriage partner. But remember, who will becomes your marriage partner is a secret of Allah. People in my country say "Jodoh itu di tangan Allah" (Soulmate is on the hand of Allah). So, if your marriage partner in the future is not that person, you must 'ikhlas'.

ps : I guess, you are Indonesian.

:sl:, thank you for your reply, but what does it mean i must "ikhlas" if my marriage partner is not the one i have been praying for? :D

You must accept your marriage partner and love her/him without objection.

When I was younger I had a girlfriend. Every time after Shalaath, I always made du'a wish Allah let her become my wife. However, she married someone else, and I married another girl. But I accept it as my destiny, and I love my wife who gave me two sons.

Okay, this is out of topic : I assumed you are Indonesian because your username is Nunu and you wrote 'jodoh' and 'doa'. Those are words that usually used in Indonesian language.

Just pray that you end up with the most suitable person for you, whom Allah knows would be best for you, and that your marriage is blessed.

Making dua'a that a certain person "becomes" your soul mate kind of defeats the whole concept of it, doesn't it?..:><:

ohh, i get it now. thank you so much!

and malaysians, singaporeans also use the word jodoh and doa. but yes, i am indonesian haha. javanese actually. ;)

does it really defeat the purpose?

i mean, we always have to make an effort if we want something. we cannot just do nothing and leave it all up to Allah. afterall Allah helps those who help themselves. i just thought that making doa for someone to become my jodoh is an effort, on my part.
