Dua/Milads mahfil

I am not sure whether everyone has heard about dua or milad mahfils but it usually happens in my country for someone's death anniversary and sometimes for other reasons.Is it allowed according to Islam or is it a bidah?

im pretty sure its bidah. these things are prevalent in pakistan/india/ and bangladesh i noticed best to stay away from these things
