Dear Brothers & Sisters,

The Muslim Teacher's and Educator's Committee (MTEC) invites you to attend an unique conference entitled 'Educating Muslims in Britain' on the Saturday 12th May 2007 at Queen Mary, University of London. The conference is being organised in partnership with other educational organisations, such as An-Nida Trust, Association of Muslim Governors and the Education committee of MCB. I have enclosed a leaflet detailing the programme.

There will be an array of speakers, both from the Muslim and non-Muslim community, to share their experiences and thoughts on the question of educating Muslims in today's Britain. The conference will engage in discussions around the integration of Muslims, meeting the needs of Muslim students in education and issues of Islamophobia to name a few. We aim to create sincere and constructive discussion to facilitate better understanding of the Muslim community. Some of the speakers and participants on the conference are:

Rachel Briggs (Demos Think Tank, Head of identity programme)

Arzu Merali (Islamic Human rights commission (IHRC))

Taher Alam (Chair of MCB Education committee)

Savita Vij (Research Associate Faith Schools Project, Runnymede trust)
Babar Mirza (Host of Education matters programme on Islam Channel/ Director of Education NIDA Trust)

Andrew Copson (Education Officer – British Humanist Association)

Samantha Knights - (Legal Expert on Religious Rights and Employment)

+ NASUWT, PAT, ATL and other national teaching unions!

We are expecting an audience of teachers, parents, governors and other educationalists.

For further information or to purchase a ticket in advance please visit www.mtecuk.org. (Tickets £7 in advance, £10 on the day, includes lunch and refreshments)

Wassalam
