A lot of scintific terms, especially in chemistry, derive from arabic. Alkali metals comes from arabic for ashes I think, (because alkali metals can be found in ashes).
 
Why can't the americas/englsih peeps make up theyr own language???
seriously theyr whole language is arabic/latin/greek/roman.
