alo everyone!
so in this thread anyone can ask different questions about their acedemics/ ask for help in studying(since we've got loads of smarty pants here, let's make full use of them! hihi)
no no no, me is no answering questions...me myself needs loads of help...(kinda made this thread partially for myself to be honest...)

well i guess there should be some rules to follow too:
1) no more than two questions by one poster at a time
2) no asking more questions if there are six unanswered questions( atleast until after a week they remain unanswered, u can ask another)
3) make sure you fill the following criteria:
subject:
topic:
grade/semester/whatever/something like that u know:
question:
why are u having problem finding an answer/why u no get answer yourself huh?:
4) dont answer questions until you're 99.99% sure your answer is correct!(someone might be hangin by an a* and they might be like ooo brother/sista on ib told me...so ...)

you can ask for advice too! or randomn questions or tips for exams!

Re: exams coming up? u having problem? ask here!

May Allah give everyone who is taking exams or studying knowledge and success and may it benefit them both in this world and the next.

I am feeling quite stressed out too because of my exams - my first year of A-levels. I am currently drowning in revision and past papers. :(

Make dua for me too please!

Awesome thread. Let's see who's the first one to come up with a question.

May Allah grant good grades to every single one of us :)

Walaikumasalaam,

I wish you all the best in sha Allah.

My advice would be to prepare and plan as early as you can for your exams.

Go through the past exam papers and the marking criteria. Once you have read the marking criteria this should help you ascertain what the assessors are looking for. To get the high marks depending on the subject you generally need to show your working out, be critical, have a theoretical standpoint and use relevant theories and evidence to support your answer.

Read the question twice or three times so you fully understand the question.

Look at the marks available for the question you are going to answer. This should determine how many points you should make and how much time you should spend on that particular question. For example if you can only gain 2 marks then make 2 different points and don't spend 30 minutes on this question.

If you are ever unsure about certain concepts, ideas or what the teacher is trying to teach you don't be afraid to ask. There they to help you and if you feel too shy or embarrassed email them or ask them for a 1-to-1 chat in sha Allah.

Try to be independent and find relevant books yourself. If you develop this skill it will benefit you if you continue with your studies. Also by looking at additional reading you will come across different ideas and different explanations.

Finally if you really want to perform your best ask your mum to make dua for you.

InshaAllah! Ameen to everyone's duas.

Sister BeTheChange, are you a teacher by any chance? You always have such good advice concerning exams, ma'sha'Allah :)

Asalamualykum,

No sis am not a teacher.

I've been through the educational system myself for what seems like many years and the experience naturally teaches you how to prepare for exams, what the examiners are looking for, how to outperform your last performance and so on and so forth.

If anyone is stressed i think this is a normal emotion to experience and it means you care about your exams. You should try and fit 30 minutes exercise to your day. It'll allow your brain to absorb more information and insha Allah the fresh air and exercise will calm you down.

May Allah swt grant you all success Ameen.

Re: exams coming up? u having problem? ask here!

i guess i should edit my post...
i guess i should add something like get free duas here! or like get free advice from smarties here!
i thought many of us might be having questions....but looks like i'm the only one...:embarrass.

and i guess i should add something like you can ask for advice(because I need it ok)

anyways i want some advice from all you smarty pants here! so while doing o'levels did you go into realllllyyyy deeepppp details or like nahhhh...take it easy...just study the book...or like no i have to study how to .....lets say calculate square roots and cube roots in your head...me is doing that...me doing too much??

and one more thing: i just moved from wales to pakistan 2 months ago and will be going back after ....i'm not sure like a month...like after exams maybe? i had been studying urdu, pakistan studies and islamic studies on my own back in the uk in my 7th grade. in 9th grade i kept on studying them and decided to give cie's of them too...and now when i'm in pakistan...we have to appear for the exact same three subjects this year and i think i'm really not ready for them. i got my mock result today and i've got a*s but.... my urdu is like soooo bad...man i had no one to speak urdu with( and even now i'm livin in the kpk so we speak pashto more) and i cant differentiate between the ka ki ke ko and hay and han and blah blah and my teachers also think although i've learned alot i dont know the basics and blah blah...
and there are 3 students that have come from different countries a year before me but they still wont give any exams of all these local subjects. and they keep telling me it's really hard and stuff...
so i'm not sure if i want to give these exams now....maybe in october/november
....what do you say? my teachers feel like if i've got bigger plans i should give it a little more time
also did i skip a grade (eighth) for some reason(long story) and i feel weird that i'll be 14 and in "10th" grade...sounds scary....
well if i was like some smart intelligent genius it might sound cool but i'm not....:embarrassalso i'll be 14 not 12 or 10 so ...not cool...
as for what my family thinks, they couldn't care any less.
your views?

the thread's good. just lazy to post questions lol.

you decide, if you think you're like 100% prepared, go ahead. If not, Id rather you don't take any risks.
Maybe you can do it. Do a past paper today, ideally May/June 2015 of Urdu, check it using the mark scheme and see where you stand. Take it from there then.

Post your questions

thanks brother!
well me cant decide....me thinks me 0% prepared...but brother i'm never prepared for anything. i am the most unorganised and irresponsible person in this world(only about things to myself though). i can change my mind and take decisions in the last second.

i have done soooo many past papers of urdu pakistan studies and islamic studies(i give them to the teachers to mark though) and i see that i stand nowhere in grammer(of urdu) and i make big blunders in pakistan studies... like i change pakistan's whole history....and as for islamic studies, i have a hard time memorizing the surah and ayah number and that's why i've got a very short range of references...:embarrasslike no more than two hadith and two ayah for one answer:embarrass

BUT i dont know how i manage to get a*s...BUT agian its not like i'm somewhere like 96 or 93....i am standing somewhere like 90 and 91 ...like on the edge, which is why i'm scared.

anyways you didn't answer this:

anyways you didn't answer this:

Better start your preparation. You can't turn the tables in the last second when it comes to studies. This time won't come back, and you will probably regret it.

Well to get A* or even better, a distinction, you have to make your approach different to others. You have to give your best and to do that you should work extra hard. I was good at mental maths since when i was very little. So when I started using calculators, I found out I was depending too much on them. So I stopped using it for easier calculations (ofcourse I can't abandon it totally lol). And now my friends grab the calculator to find out the answer and I already have it written on my notebook. Just trying to make a point, not boasting lol.

And whatever you study, make sure you're really passionate about it. Say for example you're studying the heart, you should know everything about it. Which blood vessel carries blood from the organs to the heart, which one carries it from the heart to the lungs, which one carries it back to the heart and which one carries it to the rest of the body from there.
When you're really doing it with all your heart, you'd be eager to have even the smallest of details in your head. So yeah, you have to work really hard.
I used to love some topics of the seerah so much, that I'd read the ayah like twice or thrice over a number of days, and it would be strong in my head. Just to give you some motivation, that's it. I didn't do as well as I should/could of, but ah well.

Ps: ignore any mistakes above

One more thing, allow mistakes, or should I say 'make mistakes'. If you don't know the answer to a particular question, just make a guess, just writing anything, anything that makes sense to you (obviously take help from a teacher/book or something). Then check from the mark scheme, you might get some points right. This way, you'll know which topic you need to work upon the most, and the answer gets stuck in your brain for quite a long time . If you simply just use the mark scheme for learning purposes, then this is not really a good approach.

Hope that made sense

sorry brother i am late but i actually really kept thinking over what you said.
when i came to pakistan i had this mindset i will be giving all these three subjects exam the next year and when i got to know i'll be appearing this year:exhausted i started with all the going through past papers and examiner reports and stuff:exhausted. but now i feel like i'm so not ready for it. i have really big plans and there's one more thing: my mom says if we(my brother and i) dont get a scholar ship for a'levels then we can go to hell bcz she's tired of us. so i really have to do well.

i usually am not scared of taking risk and i dont like being on the safe side but this time i guess taking risk is of no use.
i'm sorry i usually never consider other's advice the way it is and make something completely opposite out itimsad

all the three teachers and i decided to give it one last shot. on monday they'll give me a really easy test of grade 7 or 8 and if i score well, i'll go for it. but if i dont i'm not going to take risk this time.

anyways thanks for all the other advice i'll work on that. and wow you sound smart! really smart!:heated: and figured out! and smart again!

thanks alot!

i have a question!( again:hiding::nervous:)

how do you speed up your writing? i usually finish my paper before time but dont always have much time for rechecking it. i've asked different people, seniors, teachers etc and they all say practice is the only way. i'm trying that one but is there any other way to speed up your writing? one way i've discovered is to start working on my right hand too(i'm a lefty). it's not that good but maybe will after some time. is there any other way?

may Allah make it easy for you.

Good luck

they weren't easy ...i got 15 out of 20:facepalm:...i sucked! in urdu, i got to write a letter to my younger brother telling him about how important respect for teachers is....i be like meri pyari bhai ali! yeah i just made my chota bhai "pyari" and "meri"! i'm sooo not ready for this crap now.

Ah gotta do 2 past papers right now before I sleep.
Bring it!

mashah allah, may ALLAH give me that kind of enthusiasm for something like past papers too:phew.
