Executions at the time of the Prophet (PBUH)

As a new Muslim I am very worried about executions that were carried out at the time of the Prophet (PBUH) or in the decades after. I have heard about these on-line - and I would like some clarification please. Also about stories of people actually demanding to be executed! Really awful.

Please tell me how many people were executed and on what grounds.

Asalamu Alaikum

Executions did occur.

However, they were all perfectly reasonable. Take for example Banu Qurayza, all military aged males were executed once the battle was over. Most kafirs keep using this story as an example of Rasulullah (Peace Be Upon Him) being cruel, but they don't bother to read the full story.

Banu Qurayza made a treaty with the Muslims not to attack them, but then decided to help the other tribes of Medina to try and wipe out the Muslims once and for all at the Battle of the Trench, the early Muslims tried to tell them not to help the other Medinan tribes, but they wouldn't listen and helped them anyway.

After the kafir Medinan tribes got crushed in battle, Banu Qurayza's stronghold was taken and everyone became a prisoner. The early Muslims then had to decide what to do with them, and on the request of Banu Qurayza, let an ex-Banu Qurayza member who had converted to Islam choose their punishment. He opened up the Torah and selected a few verses (I believe it was somewhere in Deuteronomy) which he would use to punish Banu Qurayza, i.e he simply chose to punish them with what they would have used to punish the Muslims (this is a concept known as qisas). The punishment was that all military aged males were to be executed (unless they converted to Islam) and everyone else was to be taken prisoner. All the Muslims agreed to it, and even Rasulullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said that Allah (Azza Wa Jal) approved of this punishment. It was then carried out.

You have to understand, Banu Qurayza would have done the same thing (in fact probably even worse things) to the early Muslims, so this was just. There was also the approval of Allah (Azza Wa Jal) and the fact that the early Muslims had to show that they wouldn't always be so lenient during times of war (this would act as a deterrent). Also, ask yourself this. What is the punishment for treason today? It is execution. What Banu Qurayza did is a prime example of treason, so even according to modern law, the punishment did indeed fit the crime.

You see I really am starting from scratch here. I read somewhere about a woman (or a couple) who had committed adultery and wanted to be executed, and kept being sent away until in the end the execution happened anyway. I cannot find this back.

I have also heard an Islamic scholar saying Sodomites were executed by order of the Prophet (PBUH) - but I cannot find any information about this anywhere either.

Banu Qurayza was a tribe of Jews in Medina who at first made a treaty with the Muslims, but then broke it when it was convenient for them.

I've heard of that one too. The punishment for having sex with another person if you are married (AKA cheating) is being stoned to death. The proof required is four witnesses or a confession. This woman confessed (presumably out of guilt). As you can see, Rasulullah (Peace Be Upon Him) was very merciful and tried to tell her you are insane and turned her away, but she persisted so clearly she really did it and wasn't deranged (that was also presumably proven through other methods).

Also, don't use acronyms like PBUH. Type it out fully.

Could you please elaborate why we should not use acronyms but rather type it out fully? (this is not to attack you or anything, but just for all of us to know the reason behind it) I see this acronym everywhere together with AS (Aleyhissalaam). almost everyone is using either PBUH or AS.

Please explain to me
1. why writing it out fully is better than acronyms, and
2. why use "Peace Be Upon Him" if you can use "Aleyhissalaam"?

Peace Be Upon Him means the same thing, it's just in English.

Its to be noted Banu Qurayza had committed the greatest treason that ever happened on this Globe by trying to kill those soldier's families (women) who were defending and fighting for the Whole Medina ( including Banu Qurayza) unbelievable such a worst degree of treason like killing our Own Security Guards !! And Allah planned it so they choose their own fate by their chosen Ally as Arbitrar who used their own code to decide their fate thus clearing blame on Prophet :saws:

But a hadith shows still a few lads and men were not killed since they proved they did do some good too.

1)where the lads (about 15 up included in the age of fighters, soldiers) and a few men were not killed that perplexed me too earlier or

2)for my other statements that Banu Qurayza also planned and spied to massacre the Muslim women and kids that were taking sort of war shelter or
3) the banu Qurayza themselves appointing Sa'd bin Muad (RA) as their Arbitrar on this issue that went against their expectations.

point #2: what I remember is that they were 4 men (spy), 3 of them stopped at a distance and only 1 person came forward, who was killed by the Muslim women. I think they had no intention of killing women and children, rather they wanted to know the security arrangement so that they could attack from that direction as all Muslims were deployed at trench.

And

''killing of our own security guards'' I'm not sure about it.

Those words are mine and are a parable to the Muslim army who undertake protection of dhimmis ( in lieu of jizzya )


About their ill intention , Prophet :saws: was informed by Gibraeel AS and so Prophet :saws: dispatched immediately a or a few messengers to the Muslim women camp to increase awareness and also to the Forts of Qurayza confirming their intentions which was betrayal and also the wiping of muslim families THAT CHILLED PROPHET :saws: & SAHABAS at a very desperate situation of the trench where we were 1:4 to the enemy , is what I remember and recollect.

When prophet s.a.w heard of betrayal of bani quraiza, he called Hz sa'ad bin mu'az ra and Hz sa'ad bin ubahdah ra, leaders of Aws and khazraj tribes who had alliance with bani nazir and bani quraiza to confirm this report of betrayal.
