if by 'sheikh' you mean someone with much religious knowledge, then I agree that this is the most valuable of all the positions mentioned. However, if by 'sheikh' you simply mean an appointed mufti of some country, then I think a Muslim could probably do an equally good service to the Ummah through one of the political positions mentioned (provided it is halal of course).
