7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The AES code is under a BSD LICENSE. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions. Check license information here: 7-Zip license.

7-Zip
works in Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix.

iv got a better

winrar

it has the BEST compression ratio in the world-rar-test it and see.
it is free, but you need to purchase a license after 30 days, but u can still use it fully without a license. in other words its free.

it is small.

it supports full compression options and can be set to shutdown the pc when finished.

that would be same as stealing because it is copyrighted by the owner and he sells it for money, perhaps to feed his family whereas 7zip is written by volunteers and is public domain

I also used 7-zip and its compression is quite amazing. Beats rar hands down :)
