Green Masajid
"It is Allah who causes the seed grain and the date stone to split and sprout. He causes the living to issue from the dead. And He is the One to cause the dead to issue from the living. That is Allah: then how are you deluded away from the truth?"
(Qur'an 6:96).
Why should we recycle?
The UK produces more than 434 million tonnes of waste every year. This rate of rubbish generation would fill the Albert Hall in London in less than 2 hours (Source: Waste Online). Most gets dumped in landfill sites - but a lot could be recycled. And when the possibilities really are endless why throw it all away?!
Top Tips For Recycling
- Contact your local council and arrange for a collection bin to be placed at the masjid. Every week collect used paper and ask people to even bring used paper from home, school or the workplace and take to the main recycling bin.
- Ensure that both sides of the paper are being used during any paperwork in order to reduce wastage.
- Make sure that the paper and stationery used within the masjid are made from recycled material.
- Set up a composting scheme to get rid of everything from grass clippings to tea bags from the staff room. Ask your local authority recycling officer if cut-price composting bins are available.
- Reuse old envelopes by sticking a label over the previous address.
