A conman who scammed a dozen families out of tens of thousands of pounds by offering them bogus pilgrimages to Mecca has been jailed.

Mudassir Shaheen, formerly of Bolton , set up a sham travel company with a name similar to a reputable firm which offers Hajj packages to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Using the notoriety of the real firm, Shaheen was able to secure advertising time on a Muslim TV channel on Sky, promoting non-existent all inclusive holidays and pilgrimages.

He tricked 12 families from across the country into paying money directly into his account, with each stumping up around £3,000 apiece.

Despite £36,000-worth of holidays being booked and paid for, none of the families ever received their trips or were offered a refund. Many of Shaheen’s victims are understood to be elderly.

What would happen in this circumstance? Say someone had saved money all their life and finally got chance to do Hajj but then this happened? What if they can't save up enough to go again?

Feel really bad for everyone that has been robbed.

Some victims of similar cases really got depressed, and even mental disorder. Not only because they lost their money, but especially because they lost their dream to go hajj.
