I appreciate having this forum to present my questions. And there will doubtless be many, so I beg your patience.

I would like to know the significance of males wearing a headcovering (kufi, etc.). What are the customs associated with this? When is it appropriate to wear and when is it inappropriate? Also, is there any significance to the various colors and/or designs?

I warned you there would be many questions and here are three, already. Thank you for helping my feet find the path.

Peace be upon who follow the truth and seek for it:
Thank god becouse you give us a chance to help our brothers and sisters in humanity to know this paradise that we live in beside you my lord .. When we bow infront of your majesty.
Mr. seekingone I don't know why your name and words make me cry .. Maybe becouse it's proceed from honest heart ..
So I have nothing to say except this koranic verse:" Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say, we are Christians: because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant.
And when they listen to the revelation received by the apostle, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth: they pray: our lord we believe; write us down among the witnesses.
What cause can we have not to believe in God and the truth which has come to us, seeing that we long for our lord to admit us to the company of the righteous."
I am sorry for lengthiness and going out the subject..
So what the answer?
I read that the head covering doesn't belong to islam teaching or the prophet's peace be upon him sunna ..
So there is no religious significance in it.
Maybe you want to ask me why the majority of moslems imam wear it ?
they want to pursue prophet mohammad peace be upon him even in his seeming ..
Quran calls this mode of dressing "modest".moslems, male and female, are expected to dress without exposure of intimate body parts as expressed in the koran :
"say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do." [24:30]
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms ... " [24:31]
"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah (SWT) is ever Forgiving, Merciful." [33:59]
Iam sorry again becouse I didn't answer all your quastions and I hope you appreciate my write ..peace

Sister Mariam, I understand your emotions. Actually, this is a day that has been full of joyous emotions. Assalamu Alaikum! I am joyous because I am no able to properly greet you. Earlier today, I declared Shadahah. Allahu Akbar!

So, you see, you were not going off the subject, you were simply affirming this humble servant in his newly-declared faith. May you be blessed tremendously for this. And yes, my heart is pure.

Thank you for your words, they are precious to me. And so you will better know me, my name is Michael. As this has been a day of wonderful, new change in my life (and hoping that it is not improper for me), I may start signing my name as Mikaa'il as a celebration of all this day represents.

I did I quick search for you...
I appreciated being able to read these links. It was confusing to see images of some wearing skullcaps and some not. Add to that the confusion of different colors and I was lost. You have helped me eliminate that confusion. Many thanks to you for your efforts.

Your prayers mean very much to me. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala hears and answers our prayers, this I know in my heart.

Alhamdulllillah....

MashaAllah....congratulations on your being a moslem...

Alhamdulillah! Yay! Congradulations Brother! So was it a big relief to you?
Assalam Alaikum Sister Indigo.

Yes, although I would describe it as more of a peaceful and comforting feeling. Having spent 50+ years as a Christian (5 of them as a pastor), one would think or expect the act of reversion to be difficult, but for me it was not. Allah be praised for His guiding hand upon me.
