Hello everybody. I am a 16 year old white male from England. I was born into a family of Christians but for one reason or another I was never baptised. So no one in my family is religious or anything like that. For some reason and I don't know why over the past few weeks, Islam has really started to appeal me and becoming a Muslim is something I would love to do. I have looked into it quite a bit but I'm scared. I know I will lose friends and family and I'm not sure what to do. In the city I live there are three mosques so there are opportunities for me to go but how would I be perceived, would I be looked down upon or stuff? At this current stage in my life I am not ready to learn Arabic but one day I know I will speak Arabic and may peace be upon you.

Welcome to the forum .

Nice to know u are interested about Islam at such young age . Did u read holy Quran ?

If not , u may start reading - may be few short chapters first . To become a Muslim , it's not a condition to learn
Arabic . But if u become Muslim , then for prayer purpose , u will need to learn few Arabic lines from Quran - but u may
take time.

Feel free to ask questions about Islam if u have any.

PS . did not watch the video - supposed to be interesting & useful for u.

Yes, that would be great.

I found a website which has the Qur’an on it in English and Arabic. But audio/video would be good.

I know I will lose friends and family and I'm not sure what to do.

Why you think that you will lose your friends and family? I think that you will treat them even better than before and being a Muslim will make you a better person. Islam will teach you how to be a good, caring and obeying son to your family, as being good to parent is one of the main teachings of Islam. As long as your friends will not mock your religion or ask you to do things that are against Islam with them, you can keep them and still be good to them.

I know an American sister who reverted to Islam at the age of 15. She became a better daughter to her family and also friends. Yes they didn't like her being Muslim at the beginning but her actions and behavior toward them made them change their mind and accept the good change at the end.

May Allah guide you and us to the right path.

They shouldnt look down upon you, as Islaam is a faith for all people of the world regardless of their race, nationality, background etc, the whole of mankind.

Everything is done at its own pace, by taking your time having an open mind and a peaceful mind etc.

Hehe. What's wrong with being younger and mature? Some people get that at different stages than others.

Anyway, welcome to the message board brother and I hope that you find what you're looking for in Islam.
Coming from a Christian background myself, I also found this video helpful.
