Assalamo alikum,

I have recently found myself in a rabbit hole regarding the topic of homosexuality and the cultural, historical reaction to it from the Islamic world. It is very interesting, yet at the same time, frustrating to go through the body of literature to understand it in depth as a lot of the sources (from what I have noticed), are either written by liberal/progressive western academics who clearly are more motivated by a personal or subjective agenda, than academics who have a balance of academia, proper Islamic scholarly work and a comprehensive narrative that is in harmony with reaching a better understanding and reaching out to troubled Muslims who may be having issues with their sexual orientation. I am currently reading this https://www.ajis.org/index.php/ajiss/article/view/352, a paper that discusses and addresses a book (which is what I was referring to) by Scott Kulge, titled "Homosexuality in Islam", which kind of goes along the same western narrative that I mentioned.

Is there any comprehensive book, video or source that addresses this topic in authentic detail that DOES not ignore Islamic scholarly work and makes sense of the historical scholars that may have referenced it in poetry and such? (Abu Nawas keeps getting his flowers in a lot of LGBTQ sites lol). A lot of the material I find is filled with erroneous and personal misinterpretations, twisted just to fit a modern, "progressive" narrative to appeal to certain people. It's strange to see people twist things, even though I do believe we can have dialogue that is grounded in authenticity to have better conversations and help our brothers and sisters who may actually be struggling with this.

I also read this article (https://www.mpvusa.org/sexual-diversity) and thought a lot of it was dubious and intellectually dishonest, which is what made me make this whole thread to know if other brothers/sisters can guide me to a better source regarding this topic.

Am I making this a bigger deal than it is? I genuinely do not see enough Muslim commentators address this specific topic in a comprehensive manner. Would love to know what everyone thinks since I think this is a topic not spoken of in a clear way which, I have noticed, many tend to have a personal bias and fail to address it holistically.

Wa assalamo alikum.
