How do two people pray together in a congregation?

As in like, does the follower pray standing exactly to the right of the imam or is he two steps behind the imam or what? just asking about positioning and where people stand when its only two people praying together. Jazakallah Khair

Is it the same if its husband and wife ?? shouldnt they stand side by side ?

found the answer to my own question:
Ibn Abbas r.a narrates '' ..... late in the night, he [The prophet peace be upon him ] got up and performed ablution from a hanging water skin, a light (perfect) ablution and stood up for the prayer. I, too, performed a similar ablution, then I went and stood on his left. He drew me to his right and prayed as much as Allah wished,....'' [Bukhari ]
