How do you say the following in arabic;

-bad deed/sin - is it ghunaah? thats what I was taught but I think it might be urdu
-good deed/ reward for good deed - is it sawab or is that just another urdu word?

Aslaamu alaaykum...
Ghunaah is an urdu word some punjabi speakers use it also i think.. if you try good translate lol there you can type in english and translate in any language...
Sawaab in arabic is said like Thawaab..but then again i dont speak arabic... however many urdu words are similar to arabic...

wa alaaykum salaam...

Yeah those are Urdu/Balochi terms for good deeds/bad deeds.

For Good deeds/rewards I believe it's husnat and baraka.

Bad deeds/ not sure on that one.

dhanb( translation: ghuna lol not sure of the spelling) is used for bad deed, as is sayyi'ah.

:sl:

The Quran mentions both

junaah (2:235), as opposed to Urdu pronounciation of Gunah (sin)
and
thawaab (3:148) , as opposed to Urdu pronounciation of sawaab (reward).

There are also words other than these used in the Qur'an, as pointed out by sister Aisha.

I'm not sure what terms are used in modern spoken Arabic though.

I take it that hasanah would be something like حسنه

But I'm confused on the word for sin. Could you maybe show us that word in Arabic? I'm guessing it would be سيعاه

But that is probably wrong, since it is only a guess. Thanks for any help you can provide! بارك الله فيك

let me add some verses which I can't seem to add to the above post without problems in the arrangement of words..

4 النساء 4 79 مَا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِنْ نَفْسِكَ وَأَرْسَلْنَاكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولا وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا

4:79 79] Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. And We have sent thee as a Messenger to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.

شكراً جزلاً Ukhti!

I appreciate your encouragement. I've studied other languages in the past but for an English speaker, Arabic is definitely the hardest language IMHO. It is the most difficult I've ever encountered. But it is beautiful. And I love it. InshaAllah I will continue to improve.

Thanks for your patience.
