How to approach this....

My mum has been having stomach problems for a long time whereby she gets bloated, indigestion and avoids eating properly due to the pain. Mum has been docs numerous times but gets fobbed off. I have just downloaded a cancer sign app and it states the symtoms could be signs of ovarian or stomach cancer... A family friend has been diagnosed with this who Also had the same symtoms as my mum. Now i really do hope its nothing like this but i still want it checked out. How do i approach the dr and how do i tell

Immediately, and I mean immediately refer her to a hospital (search a good hospital around your area). Don't come to conclusion that it is cancer, think positive. Do lots of dua!! I know you're scared, I've gone through this, this time last year, however my dear mother (Allah yar7ama) passed away early January because the cancer had spread throughout her neighbouring organs but it was too late... they said it was kidney stones but then we went to Saudi in summer 2010 to do Umrah during Ramadan, and the doctors there said it was actually cancer, then we went to a good hospital (where we live - London) and they confirmed it. It was the hardest time of my life, I know it's one of the greatest test I've ever had and probably will ever have, I've unfortunately experienced the passing away of my mother at a young age of 15. Now I'm 16, but thankfully Allah helped me through this and my siblings were with me. And there's a reason to everything. I still miss her so so so much, but this was Allah's plan that I can't change however through this tough period of my life, I've become so much closer to Allah than I ever was... May Allah grant her the highest Jannah inshAllah.

So I beg you to send your mother straight away to the hospital for a check up. I sincerely hope she's okay. Again, stay positive and do dua. What's written is writen but don't lose hope in Allah.

Tell your mother, she should go to the hospital for a checkup (say 'just in case') but don't tell her what you suspect it is, don't even mention you searched through the symptoms. Just tell her to go. I know it's hard but stay strong.

I wish you and your mother the best. I'll definitely do dua for your mother!! Take care...

argh the doctor refuses to refer you because it will cost his surgery money, that's why he keeps fobbing you have, you have to be persistent and tell him you're well within your rights to ask for a referral, if he still refuses say you don't want to complain but if he keeps refusing you a referral to get checked out properly you'll put in a written complain to the NHS, and you'll go higher and higher up the chain of authority until your complain gets dealt with. Say you've made a log of the number of times you've asked for a referral a long with dates, and should your mothers condition progress into something more worse you're going to give the log to a national newspaper and tell them how many times he refused to refer you. Tell him he can make this into a big thing, or just refer you and be done with it in 2 mins. Someone else may have a better way, if you can get an adult to do it then he may take it more seriously.
 
Hey sis i am soooo sorry to hear about your loss of your mother. I cannot even begin to understand your pain. May Allah swt grant your mum a beautiful place in Jannat and give you and your family sabr.
I will try with my mum but its hard, theres a lot of sadness surrounding my family issues and right now my mum doesnt feel happy about living to be honest.

May Allah, The Glorified and Exalted grant your Mother shifa kamil and make her suffering an expiation of her sins. Ameen. I agree with sis Dua... Please don't scare yourself by thinking the worst until your Mum's been seen by a specialist. Remain patient dear sis and remember that nothing can harm us except by the will of Allah. A lot of conditions have similar symptoms, so it may be nothing serious insha Allah. However persistent pain over along period needs to be investigated. I can think of three options sis.

1. You can either get a second opinion from a different GP (assuming you have more than one available to you?) and ask for a referral. Take someone who is assertive and can push for a referral.
2. You can take your Mum to hospital and stress that you feel something is really wrong and she needs to be seen urgently. If they see your Mum isn't in pain or looks well, they may not do a proper investigation. Understandably accident and Emergency is usally just that. If your life isnt in danger you are told to ask your Gp to refer you for further investigations.
3. You can if money is no object pay privately for an ultrasound scan for ovarian cancer


In the mean time, there are some things you and your Mum can do to help alleviate the symptoms insha Allah.

1. Avoid fatty foods, too much sugar and salt
2. Avoid over ripe fruits as they produce gas in the stomach
3. Avoid acidic and spicy foods (inc. fruit juice)
4. Do not drink with meals. Rather drink a little water before each meal.
5. Do not sleep after having just eaten.
6. Missing meals can make acid indigestion worse. Eat small meals regularly.
7. Eat a breakfast of porridge (oats). Very soothing to the stomach
8. Eat 1/4 Carrom seeds (ajwain) after each meal.
9. Always drink milk on its own. Never with other foods. Milk is a complete meal and other foods cause it to spoil in the stomach.
10. Walk at least 40 steps after each meal. This helps food settle down in the stomach helping indigestion.
11. Avoid margerine. This awful stuff has got to be one of the worst man-made foods ever created. Ignore doctors who tell you to avoid butter. Butter is healing to the intestines.
11. Massage Olive oil over the affected areas and eat plenty salads with olive oil dressing.
12. Use apple cider vinegar to combat acid indigestion. Always dilute in water.


11. Encourage your Mum to be patient. Remind her that Allah removes some of our sins through pain/sickness. Encourage her to recite this dua:

Put your hand on the place where you feel pain and say:

Bismillaah.
With the Name of Allah (three times). Then say : 'A'oothu billaahi wa qudratihi min sharri maa 'ajidu wa 'uhaathiru. I seek refuge in Allah and in His Power from the evil of what I find and of what I guard against. Reference: Muslim 4/1728.

12. Make wudhu. Make intention in heart to recite Surah al Fatiha for the purpose of healing, knowing that there is no healing except by the Power and will of Allah. Recite 7x blow over your hands and wipe over the areas your Mum feels pain in. Recite al Fatiha and dry spit in a bottle of water. Give this water to your Mum to drink. If you can do ruqyah/dam on Zam Zam water it would be better insha Allah. You can recite the complete ruqyah if you wish insha Allah. Let me know if you need it ukhti.


13. Be steadfast in prayers and dhikr. Recite Surah alam Nashrah abundantly and ask Allah to grant your Mother relief from her suffering as He granted the Prophet sal allahu alayhi wa sallam relief from his burdens. Perform Tahajjud as much as possible. and make dua insha Allah. As the etiquette of making duas goes. Make dua for yourself first, then your parents and so on. Ask Allah for their forgiveness and shifa insha Allah.


14. Make lots of astaghfaar:
[SIZE=+1] Allah's Messenger (SAW) said: "It is a heavy thing for my heart if I do not seek Allah's forgiveness a hundred times a day."[/SIZE]


Astaghfirullaahal-'Adheemal-lathee laa 'ilaaha 'illaa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoomu wa 'atoobu 'ilayhi. [SIZE=+1]I seek the forgiveness of Allah the Mighty, Whom there is none worthy of worship except Him, the Living, the Eternal, and I repent to Him

It's really important for your Mum to avoid the things which aggravate indigestion sis. God forbid there is some other problem; a healthy way of eating will still help the body to fight illness insha Allah. And most importantly seek shifa from Allah. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.. There is no Power or Might except with Allah. I will make dua for your Mum insha Allah ukhti. Please let us know how things go insha Allah. : )

You cannot refer youself to the hospital (refferals has to be from your GP) and GP (to whoever said they pay for hospital services) DONT pay at all YET (this suppose to be under the changes of conversative which has yet to be implemented!). So it aint going to cost the GP service.

My advise is PRINT the symptoms and show it to your GP, tell him you and your mother want to be reffered to specialist and be tested. Your GP cant say no if you both insist. If your GP refuses, then I would advise you to speak to the manager of the GP service, in fact tell your doctor that you will speak to manager if s/he dont refer your mother to a specialist. OR ask to see another GP.

So atm GP's don't have to pay for referrals? How come so many seem reluctant to give referrals then? :hmm: you're probably going to have to be dying before they refer you with the new conservative law since they're gonna have to pay for it.
