Im a Hijabi wit ambition
Im a somali wit a mission
Im a girl quite soft spoken
That refuses to allow her spirit broken
We're put up wit obstacles every where we go
Its become something very well known,
Because of a few things, I am muslim first
And because of that ppl think im cursed,
that im doomed to the worst
they see a scarf on my head symbolizing the beliefs i hold true,
They look at me as though im oppressed and i only wished they knew.
Im free from worries of physical confidence and esteem,
I dont have a three hour make up regime
I wake up and im out the door
Other than clothing, i worry abt nothing more
theyre the ones that worry about what eyeliner will work,
If theyre breast will perk,
if there hair looks bad,
if theyre clothes match the latest fad,
every morning nothing bothers or worries me,
but those women who are so called 'free'
have to think about everything, things which about i dont even care
things that ive got covered, like my leg, arm and head hair.
Im truly free, why? because i can be me,
no worries about if i look pretty
and less worries allow me to excell
not to mention stay out of hell
so wen i hear things like muslim women arent free,
I wonder...exactly who can liberate me?
Who is that that can free me, from a trouble i cant see,
who can help me change...so i can become me?
you see the words you say and the actions you do,
are only ever about you...
how you look, how you talk,
how you wave and how you walk.
but because I am truly free... i can worry about more than just me.
i can worry about judgment day, and where ill be
i can worry about my schoolwork and my career opportunities
ill never have to wake up early to do my hair,
so think, and than contrast and compare...
this is really a dare...
can you tell me really
