I want to learn what to say during prayers(both salat and dua)

I know HOW to pray, the physical action of it(as well as being clean) but not what to say.

Here is what I understand about prayer. There are 5 required prayers, called Salat. Then there are your own personal prayers, called Dua.




What am I supposed to say during each prayer? both types....is there something I am supposed to recite, to go along with my personal prayers? Can these be done in English?


All I know is:


I have a prayer book that teaches the prayers...I can read this(prayer below this paragraph) in the english transliteration well because of hearing it in the mosque and other places, though it means nothing to me in arabic because I do not speak/understand arabic, so should I ONLY say it in english? both? . The other translations I cannot read.


"In the name of Allah (God), The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord (Who is the Creator, Sustainer and Guide) of all the worlds.
The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful; Sovereign of the Day of Judgment.
Thee (alone) do we worship, And from thee (alone) we seek help.
Show us the straight Path, The Path of those (who fear Allah) and on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings.
Not of those (committing wrongs deliberately) On whom Thou art angry, nor of those who (Having wrong opinions) go astray. Ameen "




I know when I bend down to say "subhanna rabi alahzeem" 3 times, then when I am down on the ground to say "subhanna rabi alahla" 3 times. Plus I can say the final greeting when you turn your head to the right then left.




Please english explanations... If you use an arabic word don't assume I know what it means, please explain that word 1st. Thanks

PS: The prayer should be done in arabic but if you are new start out with what you can first and gradually build up.

Make the intention of praying then raise hands to ears and say:


Allaahu akbar

Allah is the greatest!

Subhaana Kal-lah hum-ma wabi hamdika watha-baara kasmuka watha'aala jad-duka walaa ilaaha ghayruk.

Glory be to you, O Allah, and all praises are due unto you, and blessed is your name and high is your majesty and none is worthy of worship but you.

A'udhu bil-laahi minash Shaythaa-nir-rajeem

I seek Allah's protection from Satan who is accursed.

Bismillaah hir-Rahmaa nir-Raheem

In the name of Allah, the most Kind and the most Merciful.

We can pray any Surah after reciting Surah Faatiha above, as long as it is a minimum of 3 verses or one long verse. The following is a short and popular Surah situated towards the end of the Qur'an called Surah Al Ikhlas:


Qul huwal laahu ahad.
Allaah hus-Samad.
Lam yalid walam yoolad.
Walam yakul-lahu Kufuwan ahad.

Say: He is Allah, the only one.
Allah helps and does not need help.
He does not produce a child, and He was not born of anyone.
There is no one equal to Him.

Subhaana Rabbi'al Azeem

"Glory to my Lord the Exalted".

Sami Allaahu Liman Hamidah

“Allah listens to him who praises Him"

Rabbanaa lakal Hamd

"Oh our Lord, all praise is to you".

Dua after durood

Rabbij'alnee muqeemas salaati wa mindhur
-riy yatee rab-banaa watha qab-bal du'a,
rab-ba nagh-firlee wali waaliday-ya
wa lil mu-mineena yawma yaqumul hisaab.

Oh Lord, make me and my children keep up prayers,
Our Lord, accept our prayer,
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents
and all the Believers on the Day of Judgement.

Rabbana Aatina Fid Duniya Hasanataw Wafil Aakhirati Hasanataw Wa Qina Adhaaban Naar

"Our Lord, grant us the good of this world and that of the Hereafter and save us from the torture of hell.”

Another dua one can make after durood is:

Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wa la ya'ghfirudh dhunuuba illa anta fa'ghfir li ma'ghfiratan min ‘indika warhamni innaka antal ‘ghafurur rahim.

Translation : "O Allah, I have greatly wronged myself and You alone can forgive sins, so grant me forgiveness from you and have mercy on me. You are the forgiving and Merciful One.

Assalamu Alai'kumWarah'matullaah

“Peace and mercy of Allah be on you".

Dua Qunoot (to be recited in the last rakat of the Witr Prayer)

Allah humma inna nast'eenuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nu'minu bika wa nathawak-kalu 'alayka wa nuthne 'alayk-al khayr. Wa nashkuruka wa laaa nakfuruka wa nakhla'u wa nathruku mayy yafjuruka. Allah humma iyyaka na'budu wa laka nusal-lee wa nasjudu wa ilayka nas'aa wa nahfidu wa narju rahmataka wa nakhsha 'adhaabaka inna 'adhaabaka bil kuf-faari mulhiq.

Translation:

Oh Allah, we ask you for help and seek your forgiveness, and we believe in You and have trust in You, and we praise you in the best way and we thank You and we are not ungrateful to you, and we forsake and turn away from the one who disobeys you. O Allah, we worship You only and pray to You and prostrate ourselves before You, and we run towards You and serve You, and we hope to receive your mercy, and we fear your punishment. Surely, the disbelievers will receive your punishment.

In Arabic terminology,we consider "prayers" seperately i.e Salaat[Congregational Prayers+Fardh(Obligatory)] and Dua(a personal prayer..Don't mix it up by saying all of them are "prayers".Yes,we do in both of them but they are different in approach.

Hope you are having a good time.I like your point of view over things and always appreciate your efforts regarding interfaith unity.I respect christianity as religion no matter what my differences is with it.Its my humble request to you please refrain from answering in threads which questions practices of Islam?(btw,I've seen you first time particpating in a thread like this).The thing is brother is perhaps a new revert and already confused over things.Saddenly Internet happens to provide misinformation over Islam and its practices(there is a mixture of truth and lies),so any of Muslim member who provides help here either practice what he/she is sharing or helping in best of his/her knowledge.Now as you are not Muslim,so this level of care won't be expected from you.This is why I requested to do this small favour.{Just for Info Salaat has been mentioned hundreds of times in Quran and also in the five major pillars of Islam}.Sorry If I sounds harsh..I've nothing for you but respect.

are you sane enough to distinguish between warning muslims about a misguided figure that could lead them astray and bickering about authentic imaams difference of opinion? Your remarks would make sense if we were talking about not trusting shafi becuse hanafi is better or forget ibn wahab because this or that. NO, we are talking about a deviant sufi who is a charismatic speaker that uses his tongue to fool others. If you are ok with this sufi then you should be ok with shia and bhai and isamili and other charismatic speakers as well.

No need to derail a new convert's thread and confuse him with all this. IF anyone wants defend their sufi hero then go open another thread. I am done here.
