intention for nafl salaat

i heard that its wrong to say out an intention but to say it in the mind. For e.g if im making nafl fast i made an intention in ma mind " im making supregatory fast for Allah today"

What are the times the person can make intention?
Can the person make the intentio even during mid day of the fast??

Nafl salaat is voluntary prayers meri bhayiiii
and nafl fasts are voluntary fasts
u can do them on thursdays and tuesdays as god opens doors to paradise on this day
