Is it haram to talk to my cousin (girl)

I have 3 cousins (1 boy 2 girl) that I have spent my childhood with and I consider them my family, they live in a different city so is it alright to talk to them using text?
 
Asalamoalaikum! In Islam there is a concept of Mehram and a Non Mehram, No matter how beloved an opposite gender cousin is to you , If she/he is a non mehram and has reached puberty (usually at the age of 9-12) then no, you can not talk to them privately without their Wali (father) involved and that too for a necessity not just a chit chat
