Is it perfectly ok to ask other religious people about their religion just for discus

I’m asking this because, I have asked my Christian mother few stuff about Christianity, but I believe that what ever she says, it’s wrong, but I only want to discus with her that’s it. I just want to know, how Christians understand and believe.

My question is: Is it permitted to open a discussion about polytheism stuff? Just for discussion only and not to perform their belief other than the original belief?
