Salaam all.
Sorry I am not too educated in the marriage field, I know that all that is required for a brother and sister to marry is simply the bride and groom giving their agreement verbally and then the marriage is automatically certified (in the eyes of Allah anyways), hence why some people can simply marry over the phone. this is how I would just like to do things for my nikah insh'allah.
but is there a reasoning behind signing a marriage contract/certificate (whether an islamic one or a westernised one), or does it not make any difference if one is not signed. I live in the UK and heard that even if just the islamic one is signed then you will still be classified as married in the UK. and this is something i kind of want to avoid for my own personal reasons (no i am not keeping the marriage secret don't worry) and the way i see it, if it doesn't make a difference to either of us then i won't bother signing one. please can you let me know what purpose there is to having the marriage registered, thank you.
