Is the dajjal symbolic?

Ustadh Said Nursi describes the dajjal as a system of western materialism which corrupts the entire world,
such as...
" his right eye will be punctured, and his left eye will be swollen like a grape, and dazzle like the stars"
he says this indicates belief in God will be rejected, and materialism and love of the dunya will replace the love of the ahira.
"there will be mountains of smoke coming from the front and back of his caravan"
cars, ships, planes, etc.
"he will have one foot in the east and one foot in the west. "
the imperialism of western civilization
he also describes gog and magog as being the manchurian and chinese tribes being unleashed on the world, and the word "kufr" being written on the dajjal's forehead indicating that true Muslims will discern truth, and even suggested that the dajjal will force muslims to abandon islamic headgear (mustafa kemal "ataturk" and his successors....?)
he also described how the ideology of dajjal spread in the book "the rays" how libertarianism in the enlightenment period led to the french revolution, leading to socialism, leading to communism and anarchism and other materialist ideologies such as humanism which corrupt the soul, and how.... the jews were prominent followers of the soviets? (i dont remember if that last part was one, but he does go into detail about the soviet union, and described communism as the greatest danger of the time)
sheikh imran nazar hossein also describes how dajjal's followers will mostly be women due to the dajjal's western materialism corrupting women and leading to modern day feminism.
could the dajjal be symbolic?
 
Imo no its not a symbolic dajjal..

But to say that action and symbolism is not a part of the...world, would be false..or to downplay its significance.

Allah swt's signs are constantly manifest.. although our perception, recognition and interpretation of them is lacking..or non existent.

As most world changing events pass the masses by, i would assume our ignorance is not about to change any time soon.

Your description of him is different to those i have read before..

Which says a lot really.

I think most people can see the symptoms of an imperfect world..

In trying to change it you can learn a lot.

You would know it as religious conquest rather than imperialism..

I suppose we are not agents of any authority...

Good question (I think)... But I do not think it HAS to be mutually exclusive, meaning one thing only can happen. The fact that it has been said to be symbolic rather than actual is an interesting observation, I would say. And with Allah being the Best of Planners, it would not be at all surprising if it was both that happens, and other ways we cannot imagine.

Just thinking ahead.... seeing as Dajjal will only have a limited time on Earth to achieve his goal, it would be fair to say that the inhabitants on Earth would have been primed and ready for the taking. He just has to appear and 'seal the deal' so to speak and would not have to do any ground work as it would have already been done prior to his arrival.

So when the world at large is already moving in the direction of the symbolic representations of Dajjal, it means there will arrive at a time when that figure head will lead.

...an after thought has hit me... nabi (s.a.w.) also said that if we were faced with Dajjal that we should recite the first 10 verses of surah al Kahf (Is that correct?) so he was describing a person. He also mentioned in the hadtih many aspects of this super natural being and that he IS a false prophet. It has to be human form, so definitely not symbolic. That nabi Isa (a.s) kills Dajjal. Not quite symbolic there, either. I don't know.

So, my simple conclusion (with that after thought) is that the ol' ustadh is being selective in his reasoning.

As brother greenhill says above, the Ahadeeth describe dajjal as a physical person. So it has to be a living being. Whether human or not, we don't know. Because humans are all descendants of Adam :as:.
 
Those are some dejjalic systems created by some previous small dejjals. The real Dejjal will come in the end times with the worst dejjalic system we have yet to seen. He will be an actual man and even a Jew.

I suppose OP has had an error of understanding..

And the narrator's he mentioned were talking about the state of the people of the time, the influence of the dajjal.. as other posters have stated.

the mentioning of the word kufr on his forehead..

Probably means OP needs to concentrate more during lectures!!!
